How to use your laptop properly, preventing arm injuries

Laptops are getting more popular day by day and slowly replacing desktop computers. But using these devices can cause some medical problems in your arms - unless you prevent them.

- Set the keyboard of your laptop in similar way as you use your desktop computer keyboard. Your elbows should be in line with it or just slightly higher ( elbows should be approximately under right angle, wrists straight and upper arms as much higher as it is possible ).

- If possible, use chair without armrests, so you can have space to move your arms.

- If you have an option on your laptop to use external keyboard or monitor, you should do that.

- If you have to use the integrated keyboard, try to avoid typing with your wrists leaning in the area in front of the keyboard. Try to move your whole hands.

- Keys on a laptop keyboard are usually soft, and the space between them tighter, so try not to type very hard.

- If you have difficulties while navigating with your mouse cursor, i.e. if your hand is in unnatural position, buy a mouse and connect it with your laptop.

- When you look at the monitor of your laptop, try not to bend your neck, instead tuck your chin in. The neck and your head should be balanced with your spine most of the time.

- Additional advice: Make small breaks. Stand up and stretch your body. If you feel any pain, stop what you are doing and change your position. Check for pains again until you find your optimal position.
